MEMBERS of York Mosque collected goods to help support the city’s homeless.
The 20 ‘survival kits’ contain a rucksack, sleeping bag, hat, gloves and a scarf, and will be distributed to rough sleepers in the city by the Salvation Army.
Mebs Surve, from the mosque, said the collection was part of UK
Islamic Mission, a national campaign at 50 mosques around the country, and he was pleased that so many people had contributed for the second consecutive year.
He said: “Last year, they managed to pass the packs out until October, so they will have a positive impact.
“We would love to do more, and it would be great if there wasn’t a homeless situation but unfortunately it’s part of our society.”
Almost 700 of the kits were collected around the UK in total.
