Best Women’s Service Award – Shortlisted Mosque 2024

The main activities that we focus on are the spiritual, social, economic, mental and physical wellbeing of the community.

1. Education Women have access to spiritual education through structured Qur’an and Fiqh classes and other short courses. Posters of these are attached.

These have nurtured their faith and enhanced their confidence in practicing and sharing their faith. To date we have had over 300 women who have attended our courses.

2. Social Support and Community Connections Social Gatherings for Women: Regular events such as the “Chat and Chai” gatherings provide a platform for women to connect, share experiences, and foster meaningful friendships. This creates a strong support network that helps women feel a sense of belonging and reduces isolation. Programs for Teenage Girls: Social activities and developmental programs like “Teens of Faith” enhance emotional wellbeing and social skills for teenage girls. These programs will provide a safe space for them to express themselves, develop friendships, and build resilience.

3. Mental and Emotional Wellbeing Women and teenage girls have benefitted from mental and emotional wellbeing programs, including healing sessions, mentorship, and mental health counseling. These have had an incredible effect on their wellbeing. We have had 310 women attend these sessions.

4. Empowerment and Leadership Opportunities Women’s Leadership Development: The plan includes specific programs aimed at enhancing the role of women in the community through leadership training, mentorship, and opportunities for active involvement in decision-making roles within the community. This has empowered women to take on leadership positions in the mosque, community service projects, and broader social initiatives. We have 5 women who are now trained as mentors. Youth Leadership Initiatives: Teenage girls benefit from a structured youth leadership program that provides them with roles and responsibilities within the community, helping them develop critical life skills such as confidence, communication, leadership teamwork, and public speaking. We have had 35 teenage girls who have been part of this youth leadership course.

5. Economic Empowerment and Financial Independence Through our foodbank we have helped over 400 women in the past few months alone. This includes 225 single mothers who would have struggled without our help. Volunteer Engagement: Volunteering roles, coupled with leadership development programs, allow women and teenage girls to build practical skills in project management, public speaking, and community organizing, leading to potential future employment or entrepreneurial opportunities. We have helped 4 women to set up their own businesses.

6. Family and Relationship Support Family Support Programs: family-focused services such as our family wellbeing service, parenting workshops and marriage counseling. This positively impacts women by providing them with the tools and strategies needed to build strong, healthy family relationships. For teenage girls, strong family units contribute to a stable and supportive environment as they grow and develop.
