Shortlisted Green Initiative – Khizra Mosque

Khizra Mosque and community centre is based in Manchester and is part of the UKIM which is a charity registered in the UK. The centre encourages recycling with bins used for waste on a regular basis. The centre has installed 2 bike stands on each side of the centre encouraging people to cycle rather than drive when visiting the mosque. The centre has arranged trips to recycling sites and taken members of the congregation to these places to learn about the importance of this. Since installation of the stands people tend to use the stands more when attending the mosques with visitors to our community projects using the bike stands as well. This year the mosque started a new project a team titled eco friendly mosque looking at ways to make the Mosque green.
