Best Youth Service Award – Shortlisted Mosque 2024

At Masjid Millat-e-Islamia, empowering the youth to create a better a future is one of our core goals. Therefore, we have teamed up with local/national organisations throughout the year to give excellent opportunities to young people. 

 

Work In Collaboration with Bradford Youth Service

  • Weekly Youth Sessions 
    • An open session to all teenagers between the ages of 11 & 19. 
    • Discussions on important topics such as knife crime, county lines, racism, peer pressure, E-safety etc.
    • Workshops to develop skills like teamwork, public speaking & leadership. 
    • National recognition for the importance of our work on ITV Calendar News
  • Residentials
    • 2 residentials have taken place this year already with 2 more lined up over the coming months.
    • 50+ young people partook in a number of new and exciting activities such as high ropes, raft building, camping etc. 

Food Parcels

  • Over 50 families provided with food parcels in our community during school holidays to ensure children to not go hungry
  • Young people encourage to participate in the delivery of this project to enhance the bond in the community. 
  • A key contributor for young people completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Masjid Safe Space 

  • Masjid remains open on nights like bonfire night where incidents of anti-social behaviour increase.
  • Activities held for young people to engage with in a safe environment.
  • Service is used on average by 60 young people.

Homework & Youth Club

  • Activities, such as VR headsets, PlayStation etc. Held for young people to come and enjoy
  • Young people offered support with homework and secular education at no cost, removing cost as a limiting factor of education.
  • Over 30 young people use service.

Health & Sport

In our area, 35% of young people are obese by the age of 8 to 10. We at the masjid have broken barriers by:

  • Regular sporting events such as football, cricket, rounders etc. 
  • Young people encouraged to enter locally organised tournaments.
    • They went on to wing he most recent 5-aside football tournament. 
  • A sisters only Kickboxing Class & Self defence
    •  Offers something unique for our sisters. 
    • Led by a qualified female coach
  • Local and National Organisations invited to hold talks and educate the community  during our health checks held at the Masjid.

Education 

  • Weekday Madrassah Classes
    •  Over 200 students (boys and girls) study our curriculum at the Masjid
  • Hifz Programme
    •  Over 10 students are on the journey of memorising the Qur’an 
  • Partnered up with The Tuition Centre, a local business, to use the Masjid site and facilities to deliver primary and secondary education tuition to over 200 young people.

Holiday Activities

  • HAF Programme 
    • Scheme supported by local council to offer activities and meals 
    • Over 100 users who went on trips to a trampoline park, bowling alley, laser tag etc. Every term holiday. 
  • Annual Theme Park Trip
    •  Masjid organised a trip to Gulliver’s World & Light Water Valley

Community Clean Up 

  • Young volunteers get together to clean up the Masjid and surround area.
  • Emphasis placed on maintaining cleanliness as an essential part of iman. 

Sisters Only Classes

We firmly believe in providing opportunities for our sisters as well as our brothers. Therefore, the masjid has organised sisters only classes based on the wants and interests of sisters in the community, such as Sewing Classes, Cooking classes, self – defence etc.

 

The importance of providing for the young people in our community cannot be understated. We as a Masjid strive to create a better future for those living in our locality by empowering the future generation with the skills they need to be the leaders of tomorrow.
